Curriculum
Section-1: Course Introduction
In this introductory lecture we start with the basics explaining what a website is. It is simply a document that is hosted online. We discuss what is JS, CSS and how do they all come together to bring a website to life. In this course we are going to be building websites from code - from the basic building blocks, so it is important to understand these building blocks.
In coding, you need a powerful and reliable text editor. The text editor is where you write you code. We will be using Atom in this course, and i show you how to install it from scratch. We install, set it up and get ready to start coding and building the website.
Section-2: Start Creating Websites
A moment to be proud of, we create our very first website from simple HTML code. We show you how to organise the html code in atom. We show you where to write the text that is going to be displayed on the website and go through all the basic and important HTML tags in a website. What is a header tag, body tag? This will be exciting.
We add Bootsrap to our first plain website we created. We show you how CSS by Bootrap can transform your website from plain text, to a proper styled website. We also explore Bootsrap and use one of their example themes to create another website.
Section-3: Bootsrap Templates
Bootsrap templates can save you a considerable amount of time when developing websites. We explore all the places you can go to download paid for and free Bootsrap templates. We show you how to download a FREE template that we will use to build our website.
We apply all the knowledge we learned to understand the HTML and CSS that comes with a Bootsrap template. I show you how you can edit and update an existing template from another designer. This will save you a lot of time in your development for clients. I show you the important elements and what all the tags mean.
Section-4: SEO - Search Engine Optimisation
SEO is arguably the most important part of website development, when you are developing websites for clients. You need to build a website to look great, work without errors, but also to be discoverable by search engines. We show you how to design and build your website for search engines. We argue that SEO can not be separated from web design, you can not design a website and then at the end call the SEO guys to come fix it for google. A good design, involves and includes good SEO practices, and we discuss these practices.
We discuss the importance of image on SEO, continuing from our previous lecture - we share important and crucial point on how to optimise images and discuss loading page times - one of the top ranking factors in SEO.
We conclude the SEO chapter, closing all the loose ends of SEO. By the time you complete the SEO lectures - you will have a basic understanding of what SEO is, but also how to build websites that are Search Engine Friendly, so you integrate SEO with web design and do things right the first time. This should give you a competitive edge over your competitors in web design.
Section-5: Conclusion
We complete the course by uploading our new website online, we show you how to get a hosting account and host your website. We also show you the important and basic google services you will need to set-up as soon as your website is live.
